Belt conveyors are an essential tool in the material handling sector. They are strips of continuous movement that are used to transport different materials from one place to another. It is mainly used to transport large quantities of material in short time. There are basically ten different types of Belt Conveyors. 1. Cleated Inclined Belt Conveyor: The vertical cleats are distributed along the width of the belt in the cleated belt conveyor. The function of cleats is to support the material & realize large-angle transportation. 2. Inclined Belt conveyor: When materials need to be raised or lowered, it is often necessary to use an Inclined Belt Conveyor, but there is a certain limit to the lift. Generally, the tilt-up angle is not more than 20 degrees to horizontal floor. 3. Flat Belt Conveyor: A Flat Belt Conveyor is a Horizontal Belt Conveyor used to move irregular shape; light weight objects & loads etc. usually weighing not more than 50 kgs unit weight. 4. Trough Belt Conveyor: These are belts having a curve shape achieved by using troughed idlers that is made of three rollers placed at an angle (up to maximum 45 degrees) to form a trough to carry material. The belt is supported by return idlers which are straight Idle Rollers. 5. Roller Bed Belt Conveyor: This conveyor uses a set of rollers placed below the belt as a support over the entire length of conveyor. This design is suitable for conveying large products, heavy goods at relatively fast speeds. 6. Portable Belt Conveyor: This belt conveyor is mounted on castor wheels for easy movement from one place to another. Portable Belt Conveyors are used in areas with tight or less space and can be freely removed after use. Portable Belt Conveyors can be straight (i.e., horizontal) or inclined. 7. Retractable Belt Conveyor: This type of Conveyor has a feature wherein the Belt stretch freely in length direction & adapt to available space layout as required. 8. Curved Belt Conveyor: This type of conveyor uses special type of idlers basically tapered ones to accommodate the different length of belt in a curved shaped so that the product can be transported in a curve fashion. 9. Steel Belt Conveyor: As the name suggest, in this conveyor, the belt is made of very thin sheet of metal or a metal wire mesh belt which is used in place of typical PVC Conveyor Belt. This conveyor is used in conveying products at high temperature. 10. Modular Belt Conveyor: Modular Belt Conveyors use interlocking plastic or metal modules to form a continuous belt. These belts are highly adaptable and can be configured into straight, curved, or inclined paths, making them ideal for complex layouts.
